Advertisement for film
Advertisement has always been an important part of the marketing process of film. Without advertisement for a new film there would be no "buzz" for the release, without this buildup of anticipation from eager soon to be movie viewers there would be no profit from the film. Without this profit the film project would be a failure even if it was the greatest film of all time because the money spent on it was never made back. To make sure there is anticipation for the release advertisement is created.
There are many different types of advertisement, there are new forms of advertisement for films being created as the internet becomes more popular than television. A prime example of this is viral videos, a viral video is when a video spreads rapidly from sharing, viral videos often receive millions of views.
Carrie (2013)
Carrie was a horror film released in 2013, to create anticipation for the film the marketing team created a "social experiment" video. The video looks like a normal prank video which were very popular at the time on the website (youtube), at the end of the video it fades to black to only show the name of the film and the release date. This makes the viewer of the video interested in the film because they watched till the end of the video. This form of advertisement for the film was successful because for a short period of time it was on the front page of youtube and the video currently has 67,732,026 views.
